Hoplites were heavy infantry units of ancient Greece. Their equipment consistent of a lot of good protective armor, a big shield and a long spear + a short sword. The whole equipment used a lot of bronze and was quite expensive. Compared to modern times, a full equipment needed the equivalent investment size of buying a new car.
