1. In the nineteenth century 2 British explorers traveled through Africa and found a large monolithic structure in what today is called Libya. Originally they thought this is an ancient religious site at least as old as Stonehenge but it turned out this was just an olive press used during roman times which could have been correctly identified by most of the locals. This shows how biased these two intellectuals were by their own environment in Europe / the UK.
2. The people of Sumer lived in a desolate place where natural disasters would regularly destroy their houses and crops. Therefore they believed in mighty gods who cause these disasters, who live high in the sky and do cause them because of sins the people have committed.
